Scores of Jamaica Labour Party supporters in St. Ann North East on Thursday padlocked the gates to the constituency office of Member of Parliament Marsha Smith in St. Ann's Bay as they called for her to be replaced.

The residents, some bearing placards, protested what they said was the poor performance of Miss Smith since she was elected.

Clement Alexander said efforts to meet with the first-time MP to give their support have been ignored.

Mr. Alexander said while Miss Smith has shown disregard for constituency events, the main grouse of residents is the lack of projects.

"From she came to power...you haven't seen a road that she do, you haven't seen a culvert that she do, you haven't seen a drain that she do, you haven't seen a playfield that she do; a police station weh paint, nothing at all... Nobody know her 'cause she's not visible in the constituency," he complained.

According to Mr. Alexander, JLP supporters will not be backing Miss Smith in another general election.

"We don't want Marsha Smith here, and we are saying to the party, please give us a chance to select our own people that we will work with. Don't push nobody down our throat again. We'll not accept that," he warned. "We not voting for her."

The JLP supporters have vowed to continue their protest in Ocho Rios, St. Ann's Bay and Lime Hall to press home their demand for Ms. Smith to be replaced.
