The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has called in auditors to assess its operations and management systems.
The auditors from the Ministry of Local Government started their assessment Monday.
In a media release, the KSAMC said the aim of the audit is to review the operational effectiveness of the municipality, the purchasing functions of the corporation and assess the collections and management of its markets and arcades.
KSAMC Chairman Delroy Williams stated that the audit will assist the council in establishing and improving internal control systems as well as design and implement controls to prevent and detect fraud.
According to Mr. Williams, the KSAMC has undertaken upgrades of the Papine, Red Rose and Jubilee markets which are all near completion.
There are plans to embark on renovation of the Pearnel Charles Arcade, Constant Spring Arcade and Coronation market soon.
Mr. Williams said before the next phase of works, the KSAMC must review the operation of the markets.
