Newly selected People's National Party caretaker for Central Kingston, retired Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, says he will extend an olive branch to former caretaker Lawrence Rowe as he called for unity in the constituency.

Mr. McGregor was presented to PNP supporters in the constituency on Wednesday as the party's standard bearer for the general election due this year.

He addressed the tension surrounding his selection after Mr. Rowe claimed that he was pushed out.

Using a relay analogy, Mr. McGregor suggested that the team that runs in the heats of the relay is usually replaced in the final, but they all get a medal when the race is done.

"I am the Usain Bolt after any relay. When we get that medal, there is a medal for everyone, to include Comrade Rowe, if he stays on the love train. In this week, I'm going to make effort to sit and speak to him. But unuh know seh mi nuh fraid a nobody and mi nuh watch nuh face. Mi aguh sit him down and mi aguh talk to him and ask him some questions. If he's still a comrade, make wi talk," said the new caretaker.

Mr. McGregor told the PNP supporters that during his 41 years with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, he not only built a brand but also a name for himself.

"I made a face, a name and a voice, and the people love that. I am not going to change. The only thing that has changed is that I've changed the colour. And I've made it a little more personal in that I have become a member of the People's National Party," he declared.

Mr. McGregor is campus security manager at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies.
