Police to consult DPP in probe of Vernamfield crash

The police are preparing a file which is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) about the fatal motor vehicle crash at the drag racing event at the Vernamfield airstrip in Clarendon on Sunday.

Dennis Brooks, Senior Communications Strategist at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, told Radio Jamaica News that there are several legal issues which have arisen and the police want the assistance of the DPP in the probe.

Several persons were injured when a car veered off  the racetrack and hit spectators.

A woman later died at the May Pen Hospital.

Mr Brooks disclosed that the mishap was not a straightforward accident case so guidance is necessary.

Among other things, he said the fact that the mishap did not happen on a public road has to be considered.

The Clarendon Municipal Corporation told Radio Jamaica News that the promoter received a permit to hold the event.
