Williams admits to having issues before World Champs sprint hurdles final

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Daniel Blake

2015 world champion Danielle Williams has revealed that she had a few issues heading into the women's 100 metre hurdles final at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar. The national record holder had to settle for the bronze medal after being tipped as the favourite.

Williams was the most dominant sprint hurdler heading into the World Championships after breaking the national record and setting a world leading 12.32 seconds. She ran a comfortable 12.51 seconds in the heats and then 12.41 seconds in the semi-finals which was the fastest qualifying time.

However, she was unable to replicate that form in the final after finishing 3rd, behind Americans Nia Ali and Kendra Harrison. Williams, speaking on Hitz 92 FM's Girls Sports Club, said her body felt different heading into the final.

”The last three races I ran just felt really challenging on the body but I’m not sure why. After the semi-finals, I remember going around to the warm-up track and telling coach (Lennox Graham) my legs dosn’t feel the way it was supposed to feel,” she said.

She also revealed that she was not granted any time to adjust her starting blocks, as she was advised to go back on the inside for the introduction of the finalists.
