International Reggae Day being celebrated today

The global celebration of Jamaican culture, International Reggae Day is being observed today, July 1.
 
This year's theme, FromJamrock2HipHop will highlight the game changers and share the rich history of the genesis and continued connections between Jamaican music and hip hop.
 
The game changers to be saluted are Dj Kool Herc, Biggie Smalls, Heavy D, Busta Rhymes, Supercat, Shinehead, Pepa from Salt 'n' Pepa, Fugees, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa and Damian Marley.
 
Among the activities to be showcased during the 24-hour celebratory live stream, is the Selecta Pull Up featuring nine 'selectas' or sound systems from various countries in themed sets. 
 
The online event will feature performances and shoutouts by a blend of established and upcoming reggae artistes, including locals Richie Spice, Lila Ike, Sevanna, Jaz Elise, Naomi Cowan, Shuga and Hempress Sativa.
 
Meanwhile, the Sunsplash Preservation Society will present a special one-hour broadcast of Dennis Brown In Concert at Reggae Sunsplash on the official website while simultaneous online events will include a festival in South Africa and a concert in Sierra Leone.
 
There will also be four one-hour-long panel events hosted around the world.
