R. Kelly's former business manager, Derrel McDavid has asked a federal judge to award him $850,000 in attorneys' fees after he was acquitted of the charges against him.
McDavid's attorney says he deserves to recoup the legal fees after enduring a frivolous, vexatious, and bad-faith prosecution over which he prevailed.
A federal jury last month convicted Kelly of producing child pornography and enticing minor girls for sex but found McDavid not guilty of conspiring to rig a 2008 trial in which Kelly was acquitted on state child pornography charges.
Attorney Beau Brindley says McDavid still owes $600,000 in legal fees and must now liquidate property and other assets in an attempt to pay.
Brindley added that he and others spent at least 1,220 hours working on the case.
