The President of Supreme Ventures Limited says the company and the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission are seeking to end the illegal Cash Pot game.
Brian George says people who are illegally operating Cash Pot games, are not only cutting into Supreme Ventures' earning potential, but are also denying the Government much-needed taxes and may even be fuelling other illegal activities.
“Whilst the historical role of “drop-hand” (the early version of Cash Pot) was a small little banker in the community doing what he has to do, when you start looking at nationally organised activity of that magnitude, you have to take a national perspective and it normally brings with it other types of activities which are not in the interest of the country. We don’t want to speak ill of “drop hand” as it’s why I have a job today, but we’re not comfortable with anything that prevents the Government to get taxes and allow the CHASE Fund to get the money that it gets to do what it does,” Mr. George said.
The illegal Cash Pot games, he added have been facilitated by the expansion of cellular phone and intra-island money transfers in Jamaica.
