Outgoing president of the MSME Alliance Donovan Wignal is renewing his call for the creation of a nano or micro stock exchange.
This, he says, will help the smaller members of the Alliance to raise affordable, long term capital to expand their businesses, create employment as well as to generate more foreign exchange earnings.
His comments are against the background of the findings of the third quarter Business and Consumer Confidence Survey, conducted by Don Anderson and his team at Market Research Services Limited.
The survey indicated that only 4 per cent of the 125 businesses interviewed stressed that they would seek badly needed capital from the JSE main or junior market, while 49 per cent say they would borrow from the banking system, although 51 per cent stressed that bank financing is too expensive.
