Some agricultural products to be duty free

The Agriculture Ministry says it is looking to remove duties charged on some agricultural items in a bid to reduce the effects of  rising costs for inputs due to the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

The ministry says it is preparing a list of  items to be submitted to the Ministry of  Finance for consideration.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry says with the continued increase in animal feed and fertiliser prices, discussions have started with key stakeholders in the sector to craft a plan to reduce the impact on farmers.

It says some companies are exploring alternative sources of  potassium, one element of  fertilisers manufactured in Jamaica.

Channels in other countries such as Africa are being explored.
