Twenty thousand Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers across eight parishes will soon benefit from a meter upgrade, as the energy Company has officially launched its smart meter project for 2016.
The project is valued at US$4.9 million or more than J$620 million, and will be carried out over the next three months – from July to September.
JPS says customers who receive the new smart meters will benefit from remote reconnections, fewer estimated bills and improved reliability.
JPS President & CEO Kelly Tomblin argues that, with the increase in smart meters, the Company will be able to more efficiently accomplish important service goals, including the integration of renewables into the national grid.
