Belize health authorities are raising the alarm at yet another wave of COVID-19.
Some 688 people have died and 69,376 infected since the first case was detected two years ago.
For the second consecutive week, the number of people infected with COVID-19 has jumped by more than 100 and from December 6 to 12, the country recorded more than 259 new cases.
Belize's COVID-19 positivity rate has increased to 9.9 per cent.
Director of Public Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa, said there is an increase in COVID-19 cases in homes, as well as an outbreak the country's Central Prison.
Dr. Diaz-Musa said the authorities have gained experience in the last two years dealing with outbreaks at the prison.
But she is concerned that the country is experiencing another wave of infections.
