Government to boost Jamaica's competitive edge in Overseas Employment Programme

The Government has announced plans to secure the country's competitive edge in the Overseas Employment Programme.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Junior told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the ministry is committed to improving the selection process and to better preparing candidates to effectively perform on the programme.

This approach includes "building the capacity and employability skills of workers through human resource development and training."

He said the ministry's own capacity to meet the needs of the workers and their employers overseas will be enhanced.

Psychometric tools will be introduced as well in the recruitment of workers for the Overseas Employment Programme, he disclosed, "to get better insights into the personality profile, to determine best fit."

The Ministry of Labour & Social Security will also be hosting two on-line sessions to provide guidance to Members of Parliament or their designees to be able to pre-screen candidates for the programme.
