Jamaicans are being told that most potholes on major roadways will be rehabilitated within the next five weeks.

Minister with responsibility for Works, Robert Morgan, says emergency patching has started under the REACH programme.

Radio Jamaica News observed potholes being prepared for patching in sections of the capital.

He says the government is targeting main roads across the island.

At the same time, he says monies have been allocated to Members of Parliament to carry out roadwork.

"Now, let me warn you, we will not be able to fix every single pothole, but we are trying to fix some of the major problems that are on the main roads, and we know that the Members of Parliament in various constituencies, each of them has about $20 to $30 million to also deal with pothole rehabilitation, or road rehabilitation in their various constituencies," he noted.

Mr. Morgan said some of the roads on the list for rehabilitation include Long Lane, Hope Road, Waterloo Road, Shortwood Road, Grants Pen Road, sections of Portmore, Hellshire main road, as well as main roads in May Pen, Manchester Avenue, sections of Bustamante Highway, Lucea to Negril, Howard Cooke Boulevard, Ocho Rios main road and several roads leading off.

He promised that "almost every main road in the country will get a touch".
