The Jamaica Constabulary Force is again urging persons who make prank calls to emergency numbers to desist cease this practice.
Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit, stressed at a recent JIS 'Think Tank' that prank calls prevent people in need of assistance from connecting.
She said despite a robust system, people are making hundreds of prank calls, particularly during holiday periods.
She is urging parents to discuss the serious repercussions of making prank calls to 119 with their children, stating that those minutes that the circuit is being held up could mean the difference between life and death for another family.
Ms. Lindsay added that criminals also use prank calls to their advantage to stretch the resources of the police.
Earlier this year, an inter-ministerial body, headed by the Ministry of Telecommunications, began working on measures to address the issue of prank calls to emergency service providers.
