Homicide detectives attached to the St Catherine North Police Division are this afternoon probing the murder of a race horse trainer at the Caymanas Park race track.
50 year old Tony Kirlew was shot dead Friday morning by gunmen in a contract-style killing.
It's reported that shortly after ten o'clock, Mr Kirlew had just exited his motor vehicle and was walking towards his stables when he was pounced upon by two armed men.
The men immediately opened fire, killing Mr Kirlew on the spot.
His brother who was in his company was not harmed.
The gunmen jumped the perimetre fence at Caymanas Park and escaped in a waiting motor car.
The cops are probing claims that Mr Kirlew was killed by members of an organised crime network which lost millions of dollars in a horse race three years ago.
Police sources say another race horse trainer who was reportedly the target of the men was killed in a similar fashion at his stables at Caymanas Park in November 2009.
Mr Kirlew is the trainer for the horse Ms Myrtle Boy Richie.
