Supporters of MP Morland Wilson stage protest

Supporters of Westmoreland Western Member of Parliament Morland Wilson staged a protest on Tuesday morning, following his loss to Dr Garfield James, Councillor for the Sheffield Division, in Sunday's run-off to determine the Jamaica Labour Party's likely representative in the next  parliamentary general election.

The Secretariat of the Jamaica Labour Party, in a statement late on Monday, said it would refer Dr. James to its Selection Committee and Central Executive as the candidate for the constituency.

JLP General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang also said he was confident that unity will prevail among supporters in Westmoreland Western.

But Mr Wilson's supporters are not happy with the party's decision, and gathered with placards in front of the constituency office in Little London.

They are threatening to withhold their votes for the JLP.

The JLP has not released the final tally of votes from the internal poll.
