The Trelawny Police say the division recorded 94 domestic violence related cases from January to September this year.

The Commanding Officer, Superintendent Velonique Campbell, says 84 of the cases have been resolved.

She says the police have been working assiduously to bring closure to the remaining 10 matters.

Addressing an Anti-Domestic Violence Pop-up Clinic in Water Square, Falmouth on Wednesday, Superintendent Campbell said the July to September period accounted for the majority of the cases.

"To backtrack a little bit, the division recorded eight cases in January, three in February, three also in March, one in April, seven in May, four in June, and July saw 11 cases, followed by 34 in August, which is the highest. And that came down a little bit in September to 23 cases," she outlined.

Superintendent Campbell said the uptick in domestic violence cases in the third quarter is of major concern to the police.

She said the police will be improving and increasing initiatives targeting this sensitive issue.

"Domestic violence is not solely for the police to resolve. It requires a holistic response. Our response therefore will just not be limited to investigation. It will also see various initiatives and intervention efforts, including public education, counselling, and community-based prevention programmes. We must encourage persons experiencing abuse to talk up. Talk up!" she declared.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has been stepping up efforts to tackle domestic violence through community outreach and public education.
