Guyana's President, Irfaan Ali, says the University of Guyana will serve as the seat of the National Defence Institute, which is intended to play a major role in Caribbean security.
He says the partnership will position the country, the university, and the National Defence Institute as premier regional security institutions.
Dr Ali says the National Defence Institute will be established during the first half of this year.
The institute is expected to serve the 15-member CARICOM body in Brazil and Venezuela.
