Antigua & Barbuda withdraws resolution calling for resumption of commercial whaling

Antigua & Barbuda has withdrawn its controversial resolution calling for the resumption of commercial whaling.

Faced with significant opposition and inability to achieve consensus, the Caribbean country opted to pull the proposal.

During the recent International Whaling Commission meeting, Commissioner Daven Joseph argued that the organisation had no right to dictate what countries should or should not eat.

Commissioner Joseph indicated that the delegation would continue to work on the proposal with interested governments and NGOs, suggesting that the issue may resurface at future meetings.

Many Antiguans have taken to social media to express their disagreement with the resumption of commercial whaling.
