Grenada's Finance Minister asserts willingness to surrender US visa in defence of Cuban health brigade programme

Grenada's Finance Minister, Dennis Cornwall, has asserted that he and others in the Grenada Government are willing to give up their US visas in support of Cuba as he defended Havana's health brigade system that has come under fire from the United States.

As a former graduate of a Cuban university, Mr Cornwall said he had a moral obligation to surrender his visa.

He declared that the Cuban doctors and nurses in Grenada's health care system are providing irreplaceable service.

Mr Cornwall said wrapping up the Cuban medical mission in Grenada would  result in significant harm to the country's health care system.

Last week, Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Andall  said Grenada not only has a legal, moral and ethical obligation to stand by the people of Cuba, it should avoid being opportunistic or transactional with regard to the relationship between the two countries.
