Alia Atkinson clinched silver, Jamaica's first medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in the 50-metre breaststroke, on Friday.
She was beaten in a close finish by the defending champion Leiston Pickett of Australia. Pickett, 30.59 was forced to play catch-up, but Atkinson 30.67 could not hold her off.
It was the slowest race for Atkinson in the event at the Games, having set Games records of 30.49 (heats) and 30.17 seconds (semi-finals) in qualifying.
The premier Jamaican swimmer now turns her attention to her pet event, the 100-metres, as well as the 200m.
