There is more delight for local female football stakeholders as former national Under-15 girls coach Toni Cowan will leave the island on Saturday to participate in a FIFA Women's Development Mentorship Programme. The project falls within the scope of FIFA's technical capacity building programme and is aimed at getting more female coaches to both occupy and retain positions at the top level of football, whether that be in men's or women's football.
Coach Cowan will be assigned an experienced coach mentor by FIFA. The mentor's role will be to guide and support the mentee over a period of 12 months. Cowan will meet with her mentee at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich on October 29 and 30. She will also have three meetings with the mentee to possibly include attending match preparation and match days and training camps.
Cowan could make her way back into the national coaching set up as FIFA has advised that the programme is an investment in the future. The governing body said it is expected that benefiting member associations will support the candidate in their coaching role by providing them with the necessary opportunities during and after the programme.
