Jamaica end Commonwealth Games with record 27 medals

Jamaica ended with  a record 27 medals overall at the Commonwealth Games after the Sunshine Girls took the bronze medal in the netball competition on Sunday's final day of the Games in Australia. They defeated New Zealand 60-55 in the 3rd place playoff match. 

They were led by Jahnielle Fowler-Reid with 21 goals from 22 attempts, Romelda Aiken with 24 from 31 and Shanice Beckford who had 15 from 18. England won the gold medal after with a dramatic and narrow 52-51 victory over host nation Australia in the final. The bronze from the Sunshine Girls brought Jamaica's total medal haul at the games to 27 overall, the highest number of medals ever won by the country at the games 

However, it ranks as Jamaica's third best medal haul in terms of quality medals won behind the 2006 and 2014 editions when the country had identical medal tallies of 22 including 10 gold. Jamaica ended the Games this time around with 7 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze for 11th place overall. The 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, England.
