Jamaican former NBA player joins 76ers as development coach

Former NBA all-star and Jamaican international Roy Hibbert will join the Philadelphia 76ers as a player development coach for the upcoming season. The 7 foot 2 inch Hibbert will work with all-star centre Joel Embiid and forward Al Horford.

The 76ers lost in the semi-finals of the Eastern Conference playoffs after losing to the eventual champions Toronto Raptors. Hibbert played 10 seasons in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets.

He was named to two all-star teams during his time in Indiana and helped them to 20 straight Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014 but lost to the Lebron James-led Miami Heat. Over the course of his career, Hibbert averaged 10 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

Hibbert who was born in New York, played for Jamaica's national team and captained them in the 2010 CAC Basketball Championship.
