Pitterson appointed to FIDE Athletes Commission

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Denise Walters

The country's first international chess master Jomo Pitterson recently created history as the only Jamaican to be appointed by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to its newly-created FIDE Athletes Commission. Pitterson who is an International Master (IM), and also the treasurer of the Jamaica Chess Federation (JCF), will have his appointment running for two years in the first instance. However the maximum term allowed is four years.

Pitterson, who will be the athletes representative for the Caribbean, as well as North and Central America, says the athletes commission is set up to involve players in the decision making of the world body, ensuring that their views are taken into account. Pitterson is Jamaica's only FIDE-certified trainer.
