Richard "The Frog" Holmes scored a 4th round technical knockout victory Wednesday night over Guyana's Derrick "Dangerous" Richmond, to progress to the semi-finals of the Wray & Nephew Contender Middleweight Series.
The 27-year-old Holmes was in control of the fight from the go, using pinpointed jabs and following up with a straight right to score almost at will against a listless Richmond who is known for his speed.
But Richmond who was in the slow lane at the Chinese Benevolent Auditorium, did not keep his defensive guard up, and Holmes scored with right and left crosses which eventually took a toll on Richmond, who was battered into submission in the third rond, with punishing head shots and uppercut which left him almost out on his feet.
His corner led by Jeff Roberts decided he had seen enough, and told referee Peter Richards at the end of the third round, that Richmond would not continue.
It now sets up an enthralling semi-final between Tsetsi "Lights Out" Davis and Holmes.
