Chairman of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Clovis Metcalfe is reiterating that horse racing at Caymanas Park is off for this Saturday and Sunday, the regulatory body is apparently prepared to roll back the indefinite suspension of racing. Metcalfe's latest statement came in the wake of an announcement from Solomon Sharpe, the chairman of the promoting company, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), that racing was back on the schedule, and would have been held behind closed doors.

Earlier on Friday, Sharpe called another stakeholders meeting to state that after speaking with the JRC, racing was back on for the weekend. However, he has since explained, to Radio Jamaica Sports that there was a misunderstanding. Sharpe says they have since made other representation to the JRC.

Meanwhile, Metcalfe says the indefinite suspension of racing will be looked into going forward. In some overseas racing jurisdictions including Ireland, Santa Anita, Golden Gate, Gulfstream Park, Keeneland, Aqueduct, Laurel Park, Turfway Park and Pimlico, all in the United States, there will be racing without spectators.

It's a similar situation for the Dubai World Cup set for March 28 in the United Arab Emirates. However, Cheltenham in England will continue its schedule as usual with spectators.
