No morning classes at Ocho Rios High as health ministry carries out final assessment

Classes will not resume for the morning session at the Ocho Rios High School in St Ann, as the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) carries out final assessment at the institution.

The school was shut down Tuesday after several students became ill after inhaling fumes from a fogging exercise in the area. More than 50 persons were affected with many seeking medical attention at hospital.

Dr. Kevin Harvey, acting Chief Medical Officer, said that an evaluation will be done this morning.
It is expected that the evening shift will receive the all clear to resume.

“We’ve asked that the school remains closed for the first shift as we will do a reassessment with a view to have the second shift recommenced,” said Dr. Harvey.

Dr. Harvey was speaking on RJR’s Beyond The Headlines on Tuesday.
