Opposition calls for probe of Southern Coastal Highway construction

Opposition MP Fitz Jackson and Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness

Opposition parliamentarian Fitz Jackson wants a probe into the construction of the Southern Coast Highway which runs through St Thomas.

The roadway has been plagued with issues ranging from collapsed sections to sub standard base material.

Currently the main contactor - China Harbour Engineering Company, is undertaking works to repair the sections which were affected,

Mr Jackson, who raised the matter in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, said the issues need to be properly ventilated to avoid a recurrence.

In Response, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his own dissatisfaction with the roadworks and said he'd raised the concerns with the entity responsible for the management of the road.

Mr Holness said much of the damage were caused by leaks to water mains.
