CARPHA backs Barbados' revised travel protocols

The decision of the Government of Barbados to adjust its travel protocols for visitors to the island has received support from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

However, CARPHA's executive director, Dr. Joy St. John, has urged health officials to ensure enough strategic testing is done to detect the delta variant.

Effective last Sunday, fully vaccinated travellers with a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result are no longer required to take a second test on arrival in Barbados, or observe a quarantine period.

However, health officials at Grantley Adams International Airport can still select fully vaccinated travelers at random for a rapid antigen arrival test.

Dr. St. John explained that given the statistics presented by the Ministry of  Health, it was difficult to maintain an argument for the Barbadian Government to continue pouring funding into testing visitors when they were returning less than one per cent positive.
