State Minister for National Security Juliet Cuthbert Flynn says the government is committed to eradicating child trafficking.
Minister Cuthbert Flynn says the nation must prioritise child protection, bolster legislation, improve law enforcement, and allocate more resources to combat child trafficking.
She says prevention efforts should target root causes such as poverty and inequality, to reduce children's vulnerability.
To date, she says there are ten child-friendly spaces across the island for interviewing and assisting child victims, three operational 24-hour hotlines, to report cases of human trafficking, through the Child Protection and Family Service Agency, the Office of the Children's Advocate and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Minister Cuthbert Flynn added that the government is actively implementing the National Referral Mechanism and guiding framework for interviewing child victims and witnesses, using a child-friendly, trauma-informed approach to avoid re-traumatizing child victims.
The State Minister was speaking at the Trafficking in Persons Youth Panel Symposium held at the University of Technology Jamaica in observance of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
