Grange confident in JA team in Berlin

Sports Minister Olivia ‘Babsy' Grange exuded confidence for Jamaica's track and field team competing at the 12th IAAF World Athletic Championships underway in Berlin, Germany Saturday morning.

This is despite the storm of controversy surrounding the members of the team.

Mrs. Grange who arrived in the German capital on Thursday to assume her role as Head of Jamaica's delegation was immediately thrown into a media minefield about Jamaica's athletics.

She had to field questions from the international media about the impasse between the MVP Track Club and the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) about the mandatory training camp.

The JAAA had asked the IAAF to remove five MVP Track Club athletes form the list of competitor for the championships because they missed the camp.

Another issue which the Sports Minister had to address was the matter surrounding the five Jamaican athletes at the centre of doping allegations.

A Disciplinary Panel convened by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission had cleared the athletes of any violations.

However, the Commission has appealed the Panel's decision.
