JLP, PNP set sights on St. Thomas Municipal Corporation

JLP's Wilbert Walker and PNP's Hubert Williams

As campaigning for the Local Government Election shifts into high gear, both major political parties are intent on ensuring a clean sweep in St. Thomas.

The Municipal Corporation was held by the People's National Party going into this year's February 26 poll.

Newcomer Wilbert Walker, who will be contesting the Morant Bay division for the Jamaica Labour Party, will be seeking to trounce Rohan Bryan of the PNP.

Mr. Walker says the time is ripe for a change.

"Realistically speaking, if you look at the facts based on what the Jamaica Labour Party is doing, persons are seeing visions turning into reality. And if you are in a division and you're always complaining that nothing is going on for that division over the years, and when you look at it, this candidate has been here from 2003 until now - so that is 21 years - that's what's wrong with the division, the leader," he asserted.

But the PNP's Hubert Williams has said the party's machinery is well oiled, adding that he expects a strong turn out of supporters.

"We have no problem in mobilising our people and actually getting our people to the poll. We have a good organisation. Even 2016, when the PNP was a bit weak, we were able to hold onto 50 per cent of the divisional seats here in Western St. Thomas. So we have organised ourselves and have a better machinery and we are ready to really get rid of the Jamaica Labour Party administration in Western St. Thomas," Mr. Williams declared.
