Large businesses are being encouraged to invest in the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill says it is important for big companies to buy Jamaican to help grow the economy.

He says by collaborating with MSMEs, large companies will have access to new markets, technologies, and talent, while also supporting the growth and sustainability of smaller businesses.

"A lot more business from large companies must be done with small companies in the MSME sector. In other words, I'm challenging board members and senior managers in big companies, when you look at your spending for the year in your budget, you should be saying, how much of my spend - because I make much of my money in Jamaica, I am not a Jamaican company - how much of my spend can I spend in Jamaica?"

Minister Hill was addressing the recent MSME Policy Consultation Workshop and Micro Business Pitch Competition.
