Petra-Kene Williams, Corporate Communications Manager at the Transport Authority
The Transport Authority says it will open more than 4,000 spaces on 768 routes islandwide, effective Monday, in order to satisfy the increased demand for public transportation.
Petra-Kene Williams, Corporate Communications Manager at the Transport Authority, said the move follows stakeholder consultations in respect to under-serviced routes.
She said the decision was also based on an assessment of requests by commuters, as well as an islandwide review of the demand and supply for public transportation.
"We will be opening a hundred new routes which will have the capacity to accomodate some 765 spaces, (and) three stage carriage routes with six spaces... We will be reopening some 576 route taxi routes which will accommodate 3,210 spaces, and another 89 stage carriage routes which will accommodate 177 spaces," she outlined.
She said the full listing of the routes will be published on Sunday.
