The Office of the Children's Advocate (OCA) has said it is making progress in its investigation into the circumstances which led to a one-day-old baby girl being abandoned in a drain at the Chapleton Hospital in Clarendon.
Children's Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison said a team from the agency visited the community on Wednesday and spoke with the baby's 16-year-old mother and her relatives.
However, the Children's Advocate said there are several issues that still need to be addressed.
"Issues such as the custody of the infant; issues such as how did this 16-year-old get to the stage of having an intimate sexual relationship with an adult or with somebody who is her peer...those questions have to be answered," she said.
The baby's grandmother told RJR News that the child was delivered at home on Friday. The woman claimed that on Saturday, the baby began gasping for air and was taken to the Chapelton Hospital.
She said she thought her grandchild had died and in a state of panic decided to leave her.
