Protest by Texaco operators called off following last-minute deal

A plan by Texaco gas station operators to close their businesses Thursday as a sign of protest has been called off. A last-minute deal was reached Wednesday evening resulting in the decision by the Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association (JGRA) for the 50 Texaco dealers across the island to keep their shutters open.
They had threatened protest action starting at 6:00 this Thursday morning if GB Energy, which manages the Texaco brand, did not withdraw notices served on three dealers to vacate their premises.
Derrick Thompson, JGRA president, told RJR News that GB Energy responded to the threat.

“Because Texaco has conceded and they have rescinded the notices of separation that they had issued to three dealers. We are happy now and I think we are poised for negotiation with Texaco for separation terms for these dealers,” said Mr. Thompson
