A St. Andrew man who was convicted of running a prostitution ring, has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Devon Scott was sentenced on July 31 for trafficking in persons and living on the earnings of prostitution.
Scott was ordered by the judge to pay restitution to the two victims who testified at the trial.
Prosecutors reported that in 2016 Scott used Facebook to recruit underage girls from impoverished communities in rural Jamaica, promising that they were being hired as dancers for promotional events.
However, on their arrival in Kingston they were forced into prostitution.
Seven witnesses testified at the trial, which began in February.
In a statement to the media, Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn highlighted the increasing use of social media by traffickers to recruit victims for the sex trade.
