Dr. Keith Rowley says Stuart Young will replace him as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
The People's National Movement parliamentary caucus on Monday chose Mr. Young to lead the ruling party.
Dr. Rowley said Pennelope Beckles also offered to lead the party but Mr. Young came out on top.
The Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister announced on the weekend that he will be resigning as Prime Minister.
He also stated that he will be leaving representational politics after 45 years.
The electorate in the twin island republic are due to go to the polls before the end of the year.
