Operators of trailers opearting at Kingston Container Terminal and Kingston Wharves parked their vehicles outside the gates to the two locations on Monday morning to protest against the licensing and insuring of chassis by the ITA.
Owners and operators of the trailers used to haul containers to and from the two locations are threatening to escalate their protests by ceasing transportation during the busy Christmas period if their complaint against the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is not addressed.
The protesters argued that they already have to license and insure the trailer heads which can cost up to $300,000 annually.
Trailer Owner, Phillip Hutchinson, told RJR News that the Port Trailer Haulage Association met with representatives of the ITA, however there has been no agreement.
Mr. Hutchinson also complained that drivers are being stopped by the police and charged for failing to have proof of license and insurance for the chassis.
The Port Trailer Haulage Association is requesting a meeting with the ITA to discuss the matter.
