Two persons have died and several injured following a collision involving a bus and a car on the Llandovery main road in St. Ann on friday afternoon.
Some of the injured are in serious condition.
Speaking on RJR's Beyond The Headlines on Friday, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Highway and Traffic Division, outlined what might have triggered the collision.
"Both vehicles were travelling from Runaway Bay, heading easterly towards Ocho Rios. I understand that the Toyota Hiace, which is a public passenger vehicle, pulled out of the line of traffic and was in the process of overtaking and it seems as if simultneously the Axio motor car pulled out with a similar intention and both collided and ended up on the other side of the road and over into a ditch," he said.
The Road Safety Unit, via its Twitter Account, described the Llandovery main road as a black spot.
According to the unit, 11 persons have lost their lives in three crashes on the Llandovery main road since the start of the year. With the death of two persons from this latest crash, the number has moved to 13.
