Bloomfield produces another personal best over 400m

National junior record holder Akeem Bloomfield produced another personal best over 400 metres to lead three Jamaicans advancing from the event at the East Regional Championships in Lexington, Kentucky to the NCAA Division One Championships. Bloomfield clocked 44.74 seconds, taking seven hundredths off his previous best of 44.81.

Another Jamaican Steven Gayle, representing Alabama was third fastest in a personal best 44.99 seconds. 

Bloomfield's Auburn team-mate and Jamaican number one Nathon Allen also made progress in 44.99. All three Jamaicans won their respective heats.

In the 100 metres, both Odean Skeen and Raheem Chambers, both representing Auburn, made it to the NCAA Championships.

Running into a -1.3 metres per second wind, Skeen sped to 10.24, the fourth fastest qualifying time while Chambers who clocked 10.37, was eighth fastest. Jonielle Smith also of auburn produced 11.40 into a minus 1.4 wind to advance 6th fastest.

Meanwhile, national discus record holder Shadae Lawrence is so far the most impressive Jamaican performer at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Austin, Texas. Lawrence who has a personal best 62.59 metres advanced to the NCAA nationals with 60.58.

Rushelle Burton, aided by a 4.1 metres per second wind, advanced 4th fastest with 12.80 seconds in the women's 100 metres hurdles. Her Texas team-mate Chris-Ann Gordon clocked 51.20, the second fastest time over 400 metres.
