Ellis suspended and fined by JRC after breaching racing rules

Radio Jamaica Sports understands that two time former champion jockey Shane Ellis has been suspended for five race days and fined $75,000 for breaching the Jamaica Racing Commission's (JRC) racing rules.

Ellis who is also president of the Jamaica Jockeys' Guild, was found guilty of contravening Rule 143 which states in part that a jockey shall not bet on any race, except through the owner of, and on the horse which he's riding.

It's understood the JRC recently conducted an investigation into the matter with representatives of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC0, an off-track betting company and JRC stewards being present.

Ellis' five day suspension took effect last Saturday, September 5 and the $75,000 must be paid within 30 days. Rule 143 is also applicable to trainers and stable employees.
