Jackson and Dawkins celebrate Rally Jamaica success

The Jetcon team of Joel Jackson and co-driver Dmitri Dawkins are still celebrating their historic victory after winning the Richard Stewart Memorial Rally Jamaica Trophy. Bragging rights have eluded the Jetcon team over the past five  years.

During that time, the team has been runner-up twice after leading 70% of the journey but lost due to mechanical problems.

But 2016 will go down as one of their greatest achievements as they were presented with the prestigious Dirt and Gravel Rally Trophy, the Richard Stewart Memorial Cup.

17 year old Fraser McConnell, who teamed up with veteran co-driver Peter Clarke, just missed out on a place in the auto-cross book.

McConnell, who retained the JRDC's driver of the year title in circuit racing, achieved the runner-up trophy in Rally Jamaica, just failing to join Kyle Gregg as the only two drivers to win both titles in the same year.

Douglas ‘Hollywood’ Gore and co-driver Ian Banks, who carried the favourite's tag, finished third but were less than disappointed with their position.

However, the team of the moment, Maurice Whittingham and co-driver Troy Bernard finished fourth overall, driving their two wheel drive car.

They finished ahead of nine four wheel drive competitors and in doing so, the Mo Bay team copped all the major awards in the JA-3 class.

Timothy Stewart, who teamed with Stephen Gunter, did not finish the rally after their Evolution 9 developed mechanical problems with three stages remaining on the final day.
