Jacques Kallis, the great South African allrounder, has announced that he will retire from Test cricket after the upcoming match against India, starting on Boxing Day.
But that might not be the end of Kallis in South African colours however, as he is hoping to remain in the one-day version of the game long enough to represent his country in the 2015 World Cup.
Kallis, in a written statement, admitted that it had not been an easy decision, "with Australia around the corner and the success this team is enjoying, but I feel the time is right."
He explained, however, that he still had "a lot of hunger to push South Africa to that World Cup in 2015 if I am fit and performing."
Kallis, the leading batsman for South Africa, made his Test debut against England in December 1995. He has played 165 Tests, scoring 13174 runs at an average of 55.12, with 44 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He is currently fourth on the list of leading run-getters in Test cricket, and is also second on the list of batsmen with most Test centuries.
In the bowling department, Kallis has taken 292 Test wickets at an average of 32.53.
As a fielder, his 199 catches places his second only to Rahul Dravid in the Test arena.
