The Jamaica Football
Federation is downplaying news first carried by The RJR News Centre that only provisional
approval was not given by FIFA for the use of the National Stadium to the stage the World Cup qualifier
between the Reggae Boyz and the Bahamas on June 15.
The provisional approval followed the February 22 inspection of the facility by a team from FIFA.
However, approximately $60 million is needed to install an electronic security system, improving the medical system for players and spectators and additional fencing and signage.
But the biggest cost of all will be to improve the toileting and vending facilities in the bleachers.
If all these improvements are done, FIFA could again be called in to approve the stadium as a venue for the June 15 World Cup qualifier.
The inspection for the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawney which will host the June 22 return game, will take place on April 29.
