Thomas makes winning return to the saddle after lengthy injury absence

3-time Jamaican champion jockey Anthony Thomas made a winning return to the saddle at Gulfstream Park in Florida over the weekend following an absence of more than a year to recover from injury.

Thomas captured the opening event on Sunday's 10-race card, coming from off the pace astride the 3-5 favourite I'm Sam for Jamaican trainer Rohan Crichton. The race was a maiden claiming 2 year old contest over 5 and a half furlongs on the dirt for a purse of $29,000.

Thomas underwent surgery on a fractured right hip in July of last year following an incident earlier that month where the horse he was exercising, flipped over and fell on him.
