Volleyball player Dany Wilson dies

National volleyball player Dany Wilson has died.

Wilson, who was one of Jamaica's Olympic hopefuls along with Mark Lewis, died at the Savanna-La-Mar Hospital in Westmoreland as a result of injuries suffered to the head.

Paula Ann Porter, the Public relations manager of the Jamaica Volleyball Association, says information regarding his death has been sketchy.

"I’m not quite sure what has happened. I just got a call last night saying he was in the hospital and that he had apparently had an accident of some sort and was in a serious condition. I shortly got the news that he had passed," she said.

Porter added that Wilson's passing has left a huge gap.

"He was one of our best hopes for the Olympics. He (was) excellent at what he (did), so it’s a loss not just for the volleyball fraternity but for the country as well. An excellent sportsman has passed."
