Williams comes out of international retirement to join Sunshine Girls squad

Veteran defender Vangelee Williams has come out of international retirement to join the Sunshine Girls squad for the upcoming Horizon Netball Series against England at the Copper Box Arena in London.

The games which are set for December 13 and 14, will be the only fixtures taking place this year between the two nations, following the cancellation of the Jamaican leg due to the devastating impact and disruptions caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The 33 year old Williams who quit international netball 5 years ago, has been in training with the national squad in recent months and was named in the 15-member party announced on Friday.

The squad is completed by goalshooters Shanice Beckford, Rhea Dixon, Simone Gordon, Gezelle Allison and Mischa Creary; centre court players Khadijah Williams, Adean Thomas, Abigale Sutherland, Crystal Plummer and Zaudi Green as well as defenders Kimone Shaw, Theresa Beckford, Roxanna McLean and Paula-Ann Burton.

Top players Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, Romelda Aiken-George, Shimona Jok, Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, Latanya Wilson and Jodi-Ann Ward are all unavailable for various reasons. The Sunshine Girls are currently ranked third in the world, with England in 4th.
